Mortgage and Foreclosure Data

Dynamic Maps of Nonprime Mortgage Conditions in the United States
(off-site) The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has posted a set of dynamic maps and data that illustrate regional variation in the condition of securitized, owner-occupied subprime, and alt-A mortgage loans.

Congressional District Maps of Subprime Lending and Low-Income Communities  (off-site)
Center for Community Capital has posted congressional district maps that compare subprime mortgage lending across the United States with the location of low-income and minority communities.

Commonly used data sources for research on mortgages and foreclosures

Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) (off-site): The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), enacted by Congress in 1975 and implemented by the Federal Reserve Board's Regulation C, requires lending institutions to report public loan data.

Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) (off-site): Collects quarterly data on delinquent loans and foreclosure starts. 

LoanPerformance (off-site): Private company that provides detailed data and analysis on topics such as mortgage finance, servicing, and securitization.  The MarketPulse newsletter often provides summaries of mortgage performance and delinquency trends. 

RealtyTrac and Foreclosures.com (off-site): Proprietary data sites that track local foreclosure filings and notices of default.  Press releases often contain information about local trends in default and foreclosures.
